Trials (4 races
Welcome to the "Lonely Mountain Sprints", featuring the NZ World Orienteering Championships (WOC) trials alongside the very best 4-day sprint orienteering from Orienteering Taranaki.
We look forward to several days of orienteering map talk, comparing navigation techniques and a new challenge in a new environment.
On Friday evening, we will kick off with a model event to get you into the swing of things.
Saturday, is the big day. There will be an elite knock out competition (4 events) and two Open races.
On Sunday there will be 2 Open Races
On Monday, there will be a 2 person 4 leg mixed relay.
Taranaki is a region in the west of New Zealand's North Island. It is named after its main geographical feature, the volcano of Mount Taranaki. The Māori word tara means mountain peak, and naki is thought to come from ngaki, meaning shining – a reference to the snow-clad winter nature of the upper slopes.
The main centre is the city of New Plymouth.
We will not be producing bulletins till 1 week before the event so please don't be concerned. Course setting is just winding up now and our controller )Marquita Gelderman) has her hands full ensuring that everything is smooth.
All events will be within the city and if possible, I recommend a bike for transportation.
There will be space at the event centres for putting up some of your own canvas so I suggest that you bring some with you.
